this is taken from one of our first edits, there are some aspects of the final footage used, but there are some irrelevant shots, out of place shots or poorly taken shots. there is a shot of the Ed Sheeran character who was going to originally be in it but we changed it all to what it is now.

Audience viewing habits

Today it is easy to access almost any music video,

The internet is one way to find the music videos you are searching for. the main websites for music videos are vevo, youtube and vimeo. Official music videos can also be found on the artists official website. It is now even easier to find the music video you want. you can either type in the video name or now you can filter it to specific needs for example :

YouTube filters music videos by genre making it easier to find what you are looking for. 

official music videos get the highest views, because they are promoted the most and offer the best quality videos.

There are also specific music channels like MTV, Kerrang on the TV  whch allows the viewer to watch videos related tot he genre of their choice, like Kerrang is rock and channels like AKA are rap orientated.

Lyrics Analysis

To decide what shots and narrative aspects to use us as a group sat down and analyzed the meanings of the lyrics and possible scenes and shots we could use for them.

Storyboard

Our original storyboard involved a struggle between a boy and his family life but some of the ideas were to hard to do or some of it seemed depressing. The story board was used as a guideline as the video was further produced.

Costume

In the music video we have two actors, Karl and Ben. Karl will be miming P Moneys rap and Ben miming Ed Sheerans chorus. Karl chose to wear dark clothes, this is a convention of the urban genre along with the hat he is wearing with the word 'Dope' on it. This is a popular word in the urban vocabulary. I think this choice of costume represents the urban genre well and it will come across in the video very well.

Ben is wearing a blue coat and blue skinny jeans along with red trainers. This is a casual look as Ed Sheeran elaborates over many genres so he does not really have a specific style so the look Ben has chosen shows this well.

Location shots

The locations we have chosen to use are simple everyday locations. This shows that the character is normal and leads an everyday life. We used simple shots of countryside scenery and street views to give it a suburban appeal.

Audience theory

Examples of audience theories

Uses and Gratifications - The theory that audiences use media texts to fulfil certain basic needs and pleasures, such as personal relationships, personal identification, diversion/escapism and surveillance.

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs - The theory that there are 5 layers of needs that all humans share; physiological (food, sleep,shelter), security, social, esteem and self actualisation.

Desensitisation Theory - The theory that repeated exposure to certain messages can influence audiences to accept them, e.g. continued exposure to music videos that sexualise women through their clothing can influence ordinary women to believe that this is a 'normal' way to dress.

Two-step flow Theory - The theory that in society there are opinion leaders, who are influential in being able to shape the opinions and attitudes of people.

Hypodermic Syringe Theory - The theory that media messages can be injected into the system like a drug, and influence people to behave in a certain way, e.g. seeing a 'cool' rapper being aggressive in a video could influence a male audience who identifies with him to behave similarly.

Our target audience is mainly young people who enjoy listening to urban music, although our song is a remix of an Ed Sheeran song his fans may take an interest into this so also singer/songwriter fans will listen. 

My video will be using the hypodermic syringe theory as P-Money is releasing his anger and problems through music and through his lyrics so seeing this over and over could get people to either join in with him and use music to release their feelings or the video will motivate them to release anger and problems and maybe to stop holding grudges against others or to be more appreciative of what they have got.

I will not be making a video containing violence as lots of video do these days contain it and the desensitisation theory will come into effect here, meaning that as there is more and more violence in videos it will result in young people not thinking anything of it and it not being wrong.
